From Kannauj
with time

Kannauj is often called India’s perfume capital. For generations, the city has been known for attars, oils, flowers, woods, spices, and the slow work of turning natural materials into scent. Fragrance here has never been treated like a quick product.

It has always needed patience, instinct, and hands that understand the craft. The traditional method of making attar in Kannauj is called deg-bhapka. It is a form of hydro-distillation where flowers, herbs, spices, or other raw materials are slowly distilled in copper vessels.

"The process is old, careful, and deeply human. A lot depends on judgement. The heat, the timing, the material, and the maker’s experience all matter."

What makes Kannauj special is not only the technique, but the people behind it. Many artisans have learnt this work through families and workshops, over years of practice. Rose, jasmine, khus, kewda, sandalwood, and even the scent of wet earth have all been part of this world.

It is craft, memory, and material coming together in a way that feels very Indian and very rare.

Karwaan is not here to simply borrow from Kannauj. We are here to learn from it, respect it, and carry a part of that craftsmanship into modern Parfums made for today.
